CENTRE FOR

CULTURE

Spatial Design & Conceptualisation

The brief for this project was to conceptualise a centre that was an ode to South Indian culture and design. A common unifying element amongst the South Indian States is Dravidian Temple Architecture. I drew inspiration from these temples, maintaining their essence, but reinterpreting it.

The vision was a calm, social space incorporating elements of Dravidian architecture like circumambulation, water features inspired by tanks, and a spartan aesthetic.

My aim was to focus on elements that were social and not religious, while at the same time still essential to these temples. The vision was a calm, social space incorporating elements of Dravidian architecture like circumambulation, water feature inspired by tanks, and a spartan aesthetic.
